INTRODUCTION
Culture
is very important to Gypsy/Travellers because it
shows our way of life and our traditions. In today’s
society a large percentage of Gypsy/Travellers feel
we have to deny our roots due to the fact of the
discrimination we face. On the other hand lots of
us are very proud of our heritage and prefer to
share our rich culture with everyone. Gypsy/Travellers
have a long tradition of story-telling, music, crafts
and we even have our own language. We have always
moved around the country due to work migration like
whelking, berry harvesting, scrap dealing, horse
trading and hawking as well as being moved on by
the authorities, landowners or local people. Families
and friends meet at the fairs which are held all
over Britain such as Appleby fair and Boswell’s
Fair.
